History of Art in the Park is a two-part lecture series hosted by Friends of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area and held at Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort.
A letter from Karen Tiesling-Keenan, President of Friends of the DWGNRA:
Hello fellow art lovers,
The Friends of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area (DWGNRA) are hosting a 2-part presentation on the History of Art in the Park on March 23rd and April 20th at the Shawnee Inn at 7 pm. Marie Liu, local well-known artist (Painter of the Poconos) and current Director at the ARTery Gallery in Milford PA, will be speaking on the history of art of the Minisink/Pocono region.
A flyer is attached with details and costs, including a link to pre-register on our website. Registration is not required, but recommended (saves time when arriving and gives us an idea of how many to expect). We invite you and your patrons to attend, it promises to be entertaining as well as informative, Marie is a passionate artist and historian. The history starts with the Lenape Nation and covers the various periods up to the 1970s.
Our local artists are important to us; as a matter of fact, during one of the first exploratory walks my husband and I took upon moving to the area in 2013 we came upon a plein air artist set up just off the McDade Trail painting a landscape of a view to the river. Very inspiring!
Our mission at the Friends of DWGNRA is to inform the public about the rich history of our region as well as support the park by volunteering at the park and raising monies to support programs that they do not have the budget for.
I hope you will share the flyer (or post it) for visitors. And please consider attending yourselves!
All the best,
Karen Tiesling-Keenan, President

About the Series
Marie Liu, a well-known local artist (Painter of the Poconos) and Director of the ARTery Gallery in Milford, will be doing a presentation on the history of art in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area region!
Marie was the DWGNRA Resident Artist from 2015-16 and during her tenure developed a presentation about the History of Art of the Minisink/Pocono Region, which she has continued to develop and deliver at various historical societies and venues in the area. She also writes about history and art for the Pocono Living magazine.
The first presentation on March 23 will cover the period from the Lenape Nation to the Hudson River School (until about 1876). The second presentation on April 20 will pick it up from that point until and go until the 1970s.
Our area has a rich history in the arts, and Marie does a wonderful job of presenting some very interesting information on some well-known and not so well-known people in the area covering all types of creative talent.
