Contemporary Craft Resources
Pocono State Craft Festival
Pocono State Craft Festival is the area’s premier art and craft event. Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm in Stroudsburg, PA hosts this annual event at the end of August. Since 1986, PSCF has attracted the finest artists and craftspeople from across the United States, and has become “a destination” for the discerning collector of quality art and fine crafts.
This is a fun place to experience a variety of traditional and contemporary craft – as well as ‘hybrid’ forms that blend traditional techniques with a modern aesthetic.
Peters Valley School of Craft
Just over the Delaware River in New Jersey, you’ll find Peters Valley School of Craft. They provide studio-based educational workshops (blacksmithing, ceramics, fiber/surface design, fiber/weaving, fine metals, photography, woodworking, special topics/glass, and more!) taught by nationally and internationally-recognized artists.
Their gallery shop features contemporary American crafts handmade by distinguished artists from the region and across the country.
PA Guild of Craftsmen
Located in Lancaster, the PA Guild of Craftsmen believes that art is a vehicle for growth and education. They seek to grow awareness of fine craft and its many disciplines, and do this through their workshops, retail gallery and fairs, and the ‘Fine Craft as Business’ and ‘Master Artisan’ programs.
PGC has local chapters throughout the state which hold regional meetings and events – the Pocono Chapter is our local group.
American Craft Council
Headquartered in Minneapolis, MN, the American Craft Council shares stories that amplify diverse and contemporary voices in craft; creates marketplace events to support artists and connect people to craft; celebrate craft’s legacy through awards and a research library; and create space for dialogue and action.
The ACC “fosters livelihoods and ways of living grounded in the artful work of the human hand, creating a more joyful, humane, and regenerative world.”
