Artist Statement:
The process of making art is like solving a puzzle where you decide what the pieces look like. I enjoy taking what’s in my head and creating something while re-purposing broken dishes, pottery, stained glass, pebbles, beads, pretty much anything I can get my hands on. Mosaics are interesting because they can be dimensional or flat, opaque, or transparent, big or small; I can let the materials speak to me. I am fortunate to spend most of my time outdoors so it’s no surprise that’s what I’m usually inspired to make.
Whether it’s painting, drawing, quilting, or gardening, my drive to create is what gets me up every day and keeps me awake most nights. Fortunately, making mosaics brings together many of my interests such as color, composition, piecing, and tools. As I continue to explore new ways to build and combine the materials, I continue to learn something new with every piece.
