Few artists of the Pocono Arts Council have been winning more awards and selling more art than Ellen Goosay. Most recently, as part of the Dutot Museum & Gallery’s “En Plein Air Art Exhibition & Auction,” Ellen received an Honorable Mention for her entry and the winning painting sold! This example of success is only a continuation of what has been a meteoric rise to local-art-world prominence for this multi-talented artist.
In her first year as a member of the arts council, Ellen has an impressive list of accomplishments. The first exhibition in which she participated saw her watercolor painting sell. In her third show, she won First Place for her watercolor “Fall Sunset.” Then to top things off, in the art council’s most recent “Shades of Green” show, she received yet another Honorable Mention for her work. It’s obvious why the Pocono Arts Council has recognized Ellen Goosay as an Emerging Artist!
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. and now living in Saylorsburg, Ellen always possessed an artistic flair. Schooled at the Fashion Institute of Technology, she first dabbled with sketching and worked her way into advertising and fashion illustration. At one point she even worked for Bill Blass! Her late-husband Sam and she owned and operated a local jewelry/gift/coin shop for ten years and during that time she wrote advertising copy, designed ads for the store and created displays. Upon retirement, Ellen put more time into her sketching and painting and a few years ago began creating art on a daily basis. In 2016 she became a member of the Pocono Arts Council.
Sadly, Ellen’s greatest and most enthusiastic supporter, Sam, passed away last year. Prior to that, she promised him she would continue creating art and now credits him for her accomplishments. There is no doubt that, like all her friends and fellow artists, he too would be very excited, pleased and proud to see her continuing and growing success.
