For the past several months, I have been busy getting to know many of our members. Whether we meet at an exhibition, at a community event, by phone or email, or just by running into people in the gallery, one thing remains consistent: our members are passionate about what they do.
That being said, our board members and staff are continuing to seek new ways to support and celebrate the great work that exists in our region. In the past month alone, I’ve had requests from community members to explore new initiatives such as a home-studio tour for artists who create in their own home studios and would love to show their work but it’s too difficult to bring to a show due to the size of the pieces.
I’m looking for feedback so send in your ideas and interest. We are also looking for ways to branch out into the community by offering classes and workshops off-site such as our summer fine-art camp for Pocono Township which launches in July.
The “Art On Main” event which was traditionally held in May is now being morphed into a new downtown event we are calling the Downtown Stroudsburg Arts Festival – the goal for this event is to draw the community and tourists into downtown Stroudsburg on July 7th where fine artists will have the opportunity to show and sell their work along N. 7th Street.
Another unique summer-time event happening in our region in June is the International Conference of Contemporary Cast Iron Art. Their conference is being held in Scranton, PA this year. Part of this international event includes a rail tour – “The Ferrous Flyer” traveling from Scranton to Delaware Water Gap train stations with stops along the way to view actual iron pours and sculpture exhibits at the various train stations along the line. Read more about it in the body of this newsletter.
Looking forward to the annual Spring for the Arts event and then on to the summer festival season!
