Join us for a sneak peek into the life and work of Margie Cohen, Painter, Potter, and Open Studio Tour Artist at location #10!
A bit about me and my work…
Born in Reading PA. Relocated to the Poconos in 2000. Mother of 3. Attended Kutztown University Arts Program. I never finished my art degree, instead decided to set out on my own path. I remained avidly interested in way too many mediums with little success until finding glass painting in 2003.
Glass painting is an ancient art form but I take a modern approach. I studied under world renowned glass painters and restorers: Kathy Jordan, Deborah Coombs, and Kenneth Leap. I went on to teach glass painting in local workshops and at Peters Valley School of Craft. I sold my work through juried Art and Craft shows and placed First in the COTA Fest Art show 2018 and Second Best in show at Peters Valley Craft Show 2010. My painted glass is in homes and businesses around the world. Unfortunately, a hand injury in 2017 made it necessary to retire from glass painting.
So, on to the next medium….
How about pottery? My work is highly decorative and somewhat whimsical. I use porcelain and stoneware clays with food safe glazes. I studied at Baum School of Art as well as under the talented Ian Stainton, Gail Kendal, and Francine Epstein.
I also paint with oils on canvas. I am mostly self taught but began with the help of a wonderful oil painter in Reading PA, Bruce Becker. The human form and portraiture are of most interest to me. I work toward the narrative, emotion and relationships.
I hope you will join me for a visit to my home studios on April 27th or 28th, 2019. We can talk art, you can see the wonderful quiet space I work in, and perhaps you may want to make a purchase (I will be able to take credit cards).
And, just next door are two more stops on the Open Studio Tour!
