Join us for a sneak peek into the life and work of Elizabeth Tilley, Entrepreneur and Open Studio Tour Artist at location #8!
My studio is in a one-room schoolhouse from the 1890s, and is part of a larger property consisting of a 1780 colonial home, 1860s brick chapel, and gardener’s cottage.
All will be open for the tour. Many creative things happen here, come see! I make puppet theatre, clothing, jewelry, mixed media sculpture, paintings, barn quilts and fabric quilts!
About Elizabeth Tilley
I moved here five years ago from upstate New York, where I had a studio in Binghamton, and also in Ithaca, where I owned a gallery supporting local artists and participated in the Art Trail there, featuring 70+ artist studios.
I am completely self-taught, but I’ve been learning since I was a child, as I always drew and read and wrote and dreamed a world of my own. I have worked with glass, mosaics, clay sculpture, painting on canvas, mixed media, jewelry, embroidery, quilting, clothing design, murals, furniture painting, paper arts, and more, and I’m showing a little of all of it in my space.
I moved here to restore a historic property because it had everything I ever dreamed of—a one room schoolhouse to make art in and a chapel to show it in. Since coming here, I’ve shown my art quilts , my vintage inspired clothing designs in several different (rather avant garde) fashion shows, and written plays for puppets I created and made sets for. This is the first time I am showing my paintings.
I make things to turn a broken heart into art – that is why the largest painting in my exhibit is a heart with wings and a pink center where hope resides. Come to my divine sanctuary art chapel and be healed by art with me.
