Old Glory, Hurricane Katrina

Artist’s Website or Social Media:
Both of my submissions stem from my time spent in Mississippi following the destruction Hurricane Katrina left throughout the region in 2005. Widespread flooding as a result of the levee breaks received widespread media coverage, but areas in MS were significantly more affected.
Waveland, MS, the location of my first image, was considered “ground zero” of the storm. Most of the town was completely obliterated and almost 50 people were killed after the area was directly hit by the hurricane’s eye wall and its subsequent 26 foot high storm surges. This image is part of a series taken just a week following the storm while working with a Civil Air Patrol search and rescue team.
