We are used to being directed by signage in almost every aspect of our lives—we are told where to park (and where not to), if we are allowed to fish or trespass, rules of restaurants, pools, and the workplace and what we may or may not flush. In many cases to disobey a sign, results in a fine or other punitive repercussion. In Signs of the Times, comedian, writer, and artist Jessica Delfino (host of The Mom Report on Pocono 96.7) re-envisions a world where, using the street sign format, we are directed on a different level. These signs serve to advise emotionally and mentally, versus legally. Jessica’s signs speak to our conscience and to our hearts, offering us humane, empathetic, and at times humorous (and maybe provocative) life advice, common sense reminders, and simple truths in the hopes that viewers might take away a new, kinder perspective, and hold onto these reminders when they need them most.
Jessica studied fine art at University of Maine, Augusta and design and 2-D/3-D illustration at The Art Institute of Philadelphia. This is Jessica’s first solo art show.
This project was originally created with a grant from New York City Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice.
Jessica Delfino is a Showrunner, mom, host/creator of the weekly Mom Report on Pocono 96.7 FM and a writer for The New York Times and other publications by day, but at night, she is a delightfully twisted stand-up comedian and comedic musician who sings original comedic songs along with “mutilated classic rock covers”. She has performed at clubs and festivals worldwide, including London’s Soho Theatre, Edinburgh Fringe Fest, Reading and Leeds, Just For Laughs, SXSW, Caroline’s On Broadway, Joe’s Pub, The Stand, Broadway Comedy Club and more. In 2006, she had a big viral YouTube comedic pop song about the feminine body, mystique and magic, and has been paving the way for feminist anthems to follow, ever since. She spends most of her time between NYC and the Poconos, and online at @JessicaDelfino on Instagram and Twitter.
