Member Workshops at The Mountain Center: Reusable Fabric Journal Cover

Pamela Eden Dulaff leads folks through making a reuseable fabric journal cover.

Participants must bring the following:

• two pieces of coordinating cotton fabrics (1 fat quarter* each)
• Elmers Glue-all
• rotary cutter, box cutter, or X-acto knife
• self-healing cutting mat (or heavy cardboard to protect the table top
• scissors
• metal ruler
• old paint brush to use for the glue
• masking tape
• embellishments like ribbons, buttons, and elastics are optional
• 5″x7″ spiral bound journal or address book

Pamela Dulaff is President of Warren County ARTs, an art organization based in Oxford, NJ. Pam has her fingers in many artistic pies including photography, painting in watercolors and acrylics, and more recently cartonnage and handmade journals.

Cartonnage is an amazing technique. You can make your own boxes, cases and much more out of cardboard or book board, fabric and glue using cartonnage! Your pieces will be sturdy as wood, but made with your favorite fabric! In this workshop we’ll be making a reusable fabric covered journal cover.

Each kit includes all the materials (except fabric) to make a reusable journal cover as shown in the pictures, as well as a booklet of instructions. Everything in the kit is precut to exactly the right sizes needed for this project. The refillable notebook cover will measure 8” x 6” closed and will fit a standard 7” x 4 3/8” one-subject notebook which can be purchased at most office supply stores. Great for journaling, addresses, recipes, you name it!

* A fat quarter is cut crosswise from a 1⁄2-yard piece of fabric-an 18×44″ rectangle cut in half to yield an 18×21″ “fat” 1⁄4-yard piece. Fat Eighth.
