Spring has almost sprung and the Pocono Arts Council is going full steam ahead. While some things remain the “gold standard” for our members such as the upcoming Earth Speaks IV Exhibition in April and the Member’s Exhibition in May, I am pleased to announce that we have added some new wrinkles for the annual Spring for the Arts 2018 gala. Instead of multiple items of art being auctioned on-site at Stroudsmoor, we will be launching a brand new “online” auction on May 1st which will stay live through midnight on May 25. There will be plenty of art to bid on along with items such as gift certificates and baskets. With limited space at the pavilion venue, we have retooled our evening with a fun theme, “A Night at the Kentucky Derby.” Raffle tickets will be available as in years’ past with three great prizes up for grabs. See the article in this newsletter for details. Invitations will be going out soon (tickets will also be available for purchase online).
I am also pleased to announce that we added two new public galleries to our collection to give our members even more exposure in the community. The Pocono Arts Council welcomes two new gallery spaces in Stroudsburg: NEPA Credit Union and the Office of State Rep. Maureen Madden.
In January, we welcomed approximately 50 new student members and are looking for new ways to mentor them into our activities. To start with, we are planning a fun sketch crawl at the Monroe County Farmer’s Market in the late spring. Students also have an opportunity to enter an art contest/ exhibition for the Monroe County Children’s Roundtable Community Night at NCC, Monroe. We have noticed an increase in student involvement in our monthly exhibitions at the ARTSPACE Gallery as well.
My first three months have been a whirlwind of activity, and I look forward to continuing the good work of the arts council over the next year. If you have any questions or ideas, please feel free to reach out. We welcome and depend on member involvement and appreciate the volunteering spirit that exists at the Pocono Arts Council and the Origins Gallery.
