PoconoArts Summer Day Camp - August 16 -20
STROUD OPEN SPACE & RECREATION will feature a day camp for children ages 7-11, August 16 -20, 10 am-3 pm daily. Instructor is Ms. Suzanne Werfelman, art teacher in the Pleasant Valley School District. Each day a different topic will be explored, i.e., drawing, nature journaling, printing, design, weaving, watercolor painting, sculpting with clay, mask making and etching. All supplies will be provided. Please pack a lunch to enjoy daily!

Oil Painting
4 weeks, August 5-26
Thursday 6-9pm
Explore the expression of ideas while developing your own technique in the use of the oil medium. This ongoing workshop starts with the basics, drawing and composition, and continues through the preparation of materials and application of paint. Working at your own pace, you pick your subject while the instructor guides you through the process of producing a piece of art.
Instructor: John McAllister is a graduate of York Academy of Arts and works as a freelance artist and videographer.

Creative Writing
4 weeks, August 9 – 30 Monday 7-9pm
This course is for those who would like to write short stories or novels. Students will learn how to constructively critique and improve their writing through short class assignments, use of dialogue, attention to the story’s voice and tone, and specific concentration on creating a picture with words.
Instructor: Maureen Gilleece Harms earned a MFA in Creative Writing from Brooklyn College in NY and has, for more than twenty five years produced, directed and performed in various community theater productions in the NY metropolitan area. Maureen currently teaches
Acting for Community Theater in East Stroudsburg .

Watercolor Painting
4 weeks,
August 10 – 31 Tuesday 6-9pm
Using the simple concept of complementary colors and the most elementary principles of the Color Wheel, students will learn to create beautiful works of art. You will use your innate, fundamental drawing skills to sketch on cold pressed watercolor paper, which will be the basis for painting projects.
Instructor: Will Daskal is a retired educator as well as an award winning fine artist. For the past three years he has studied at the Baum School of Art in Allentown with William Wentz and Dana Van Horn. Will loves to paint and more importantly adores teaching.

Watercolor Painting Workshop
(Saving the White of the Paper in Watercolor)
One Day, August 9 Monday 10am-2pm
I
n watercolor white paint is not used to paint something while. The paper is considered to be your white paint. That being said, in this workshop you will learn how to paint the negative space in order to save and paint a white subject. At the end of the workshop you will have completed a still life. A drawing will be provided to trace, if needed.
Instructor: Jasmine Abrams has been painting and drawing since childhood. She studied Art and Advertising at New York City Technical College ; fine art at the School of Visual Art and the Art Students League of NY. Her artwork is inspired by nature making her watercolors vibrant and bold with color. She has received numerous awards in NYC and the Poconos.

Using Modern Canvas to Paint in Acrylic -
(No Need for Framing)
One Day, August 16 Monday 10am-2pm
There are so many new painting surfaces to choose from. In this workshop you will use a modern wrap-around-canvas to create a still life or landscape (depending on the size of the canvas you choose) ready for hanging……no need to frame the piece. A drawing will be provided to trace, if needed.

Drawing Workshop

Spend some time exploring the use of charcoal and Conte crayon, working from a still life, thinking about composition, value and line. Best of all, enjoy a day of learning, creating and meeting new friends.

Painting with Collage
Saturday, October 9 10am – 2pm
This workshop will concentrate on mixed media (acrylic paint and tissue paper.) Students will work in a very unstructured manner, exploring composition, technique and design.

Pastel Painting
Saturday, November 13 10am-2pm
Explore the use of soft pastels in a painterly fashion. This workshop is for the novice as well as the advanced artist.

About the Artist
Iraina Caramelli is an accomplished artist with over 30 years of teaching experience working in a variety of media including watercolor, mixed media, pen & ink, acrylic and pastels. Iraina studied at Pratt Institute and graduated from Parsons School of Design. She continues to create, teach and exhibit locally and in New York City . |
