The Pocono Arts Council began the creation of its group map project at East Stroudsburg University’s Fine and Performing Arts Center on Tuesday, August 14. David Mazure, associate professor of art and design at ESU, is heading up the “Stroudsburg Area Map Room Project” to engage groups in the local community to create individualized large-scale maps of the Stroudsburg/East Stroudsburg region.
This exercise will demonstrate how different groups interpret their hometown and how their personal experiences in this space is a reflection of their uniqueness and diversity. The Stroudsburg Map Room Project is listed as part of ESU’s Strategic Plan’s Initiative 4.4: Community Engagement in Societal Issues.
The finished maps will travel throughout the area as a traveling exhibition. To stay up to date, visit Professor Mazure’s blog.
