Open Air Gallery is based on the idea that the arts on display are not only an attraction in itself – an array of artistic subject matter created in several mediums by local artists – but act as a beacon to the area they are set up in, which in turn helps promote the surrounding community in many ways. Some people who have never experienced a gallery exhibition will be able to have this opportunity, and the artists will have another form of accessibility for getting their works seen publicly and possibly sold.
Once a month during summer and fall, Origins Gallery at Pocono Arts will assemble up to 10 artists (chosen through jury process in advance), to exhibit up to 3 pieces of work on the sidewalks and other areas in front of chosen locations within Stroudsburg Borough’s downtown.
The work can be sold on the spot, with 20% commission going to the Pocono Arts Council (Sponsor) on all sales of hand-created artwork (no kits or crafts). Most open air galleries will be on a Friday evening, 5-7 pm, but may change (with advance notice) in the event of weather or other issues. A schedule of dates and locations will be available at Pocono Arts Council starting May 1, 2017. Artists will need to remain with their works for the duration of the gallery display.
If you are interested in participating in this exciting, new exhibition opportunity, please contact Pocono Arts Council today at 570-476-4460 or to get a copy of the prospectus for the juried entry to these exhibitions.
Pocono Arts Council and Origins Gallery at PoconoArts believe that by working together, the community, artists and businesses in downtown Stroudsburg can have a positive and rewarding experience!
