Lenore Fiore Mills’ Batik, ‘The 4 Freedoms for All’
Lenore Fiore Mills’ batik “The 4 Freedoms for All,” was accepted into “Hope for the Holidays,” a juried exhibit at the Monmouth Museum in New Jersey.

“Repurposing Art,” work by Will Rothfuss, will be on exhibit in the Romano Gallery, Armstrong-Hipkins Center for the Arts, Blair Academy, Blairstown NJ, thru January 6. In both his two-dimensional collage and three-dimensional assemblage works, Will Rothfuss appropriates the imagery and vocabulary of modern art to explore the relevance of image-making in a postmodern era. He recycles existing materials, including men’s shirts, old master reproductions, magazine clippings, glass and wire. By juxtaposing dissimilar elements, his pieces build narrative meaning and aesthetic form. Gallery Hours: Monday – Saturday 10AM-6PM or by appointment when school is closed. Call 908-362-6121 or www.blair.edu.

The Pocono Arts Council extends its sympathies to the families and friends of Jim Smeltz who passed away on November 22. Jim was a long time teacher who encouraged many local artists to find their creativity. He was also a wonderful artist whose work can be found in collections throughout the Poconos and beyond. His smiling face will be missed at PoconoArts where he was a member for many years.

In addition to Jim, well known jazz musician John Coates, Jr. also passed away on November 22 in Scranton. A pianist, composer and arranger, John was a fixture at the Deer Head Inn and the Celebration of the Arts in Delaware Water Gap.
